I’ve had the habit of convincing myself that self care needed to be an extravagant gesture or a long, planned out morning routine. Doing that would ultimately stress me out. For example, if I expected my self care to come from spending 'me' time doing skincare, journaling, and getting ready for bed from 8 PM to 9:30 PM every night, I would just end up disappointed or frustrated. Sometimes, it’s just not possible. The crazy thing I’ve learned….. it’s okay when things don’t go as planned.

I’ve been learning to simplify my self care. For me, it’s okay to take just a few minutes for deep breaths or to wash my face in 5 minutes instead of taking 30 minutes for a full routine. Sometimes, a cup of coffee while getting ready is more beneficial for me than quietly journaling. I’ve had to learn to balance caring for myself (and doing something a little extra for me) with my daily life and responsibilities. Even at my job I’ll incorporate some stretching while the children are napping… it truly is the little things.

Lavender has always been a plant I associate with calming effects. The smell is wonderful, and lavender tea is great too!

You’re right, though. There are simple and intentional ways to feel renewed and calm while balancing life’s demands…. this lesson particular is one of the harder ones in learning, but I’m trusting the journey. Thank you for the reminder to stay grounded. 😌
